The room behind the shop, with a door onto the lane, a fitting room, a lady tailor and a lady on the counter.
Everything the main shop does is done here: alterations, made to measure, the Dhivehi dress with its kasabu neckline, abayas, school pinafores and party clothes. Measurements are taken by the lady tailor, in the fitting room, with the door closed and nobody else in the room. That is how it has worked since 2014 and it is not negotiable, including when the shop is busy.
Alteration prices are the same as the main counter. Made to measure for a Dhivehi dress is from 900 rufiyaa for the making, and the kasabu work is priced separately because it is days rather than hours and it is done by hand by one of two people in this shop who can do it.
If you would rather not come in at all, send the measurements of a garment that already fits you, laid flat, with a tape in the photograph. It is not as good as a fitting and it is a great deal better than guessing, and plenty of our regular customers order this way.
