Fehumaa Tailors Alterations, made to measure and uniforms, on Iskandharu Magu since 2011
Fifteen years on Iskandharu Magu

A tailor who measures you rather than guessing

Alterations while you wait, shirts and suits made to your measurements, uniforms by the hundred, and curtains measured at your window. Six machines, four tailors, and a separate ladies section.

Why people come back

Four things we do differently

A lady tailor for ladies

The ladies section has its own room, its own door and its own tailor. Measurements for ladies are taken by a lady, always, and never in the main shop.

Alterations the same day

A hem, a waist or a zip brought in before three o'clock is ready by eight, and we will tell you honestly when it cannot be.

A written measurement card

Your measurements are kept on a card with your name on it, so the second shirt fits like the first without another fitting.

Your cloth or ours

Bring your own material and pay for the making only. We will tell you before we cut if there is not enough of it.

In their words

What customers say

The ladies room has its own door and its own tailor, and nobody has ever taken my measurements anywhere else. That is the only reason I stopped ordering clothes from abroad.

F Fathimath Liusha Regular customer

They made two sample blouses in two fabrics and let my staff wear them for an afternoon before I chose. The one I had picked myself would have been unwearable by eleven in the morning.

A Ahmed Rilwan Shop owner, A retail shop on Majeedhee Magu

They refused to measure my curtains from the drawings and made me wait three weeks for the flooring. Three flats finished eleven millimetres high, so they were right and I was wrong.

Before you come in

What people ask at the counter

Can I bring my own cloth?

Yes, and most of our customers do. You pay for the making only, which is roughly half the price of the same garment in our cloth.

Bring a little more than you think you need: two and a quarter metres for a long sleeved shirt, three and a half for trousers, and add half a metre if the cloth has a pattern that has to match across a seam. We measure what you bring before we cut and tell you if it is short.

How much is an alteration?

A trouser hem is 50 rufiyaa, a waist taken in is 100, a full zip is 120 and shirt sleeves shortened are 80. Jackets and dresses are priced when we see them, at the counter, before anything is unpicked.

There is no charge for being told an alteration is not possible, and we would rather tell you that than take the garment.

Do you take measurements for ladies?

In the ladies section only, by the lady tailor, in the fitting room with the door closed. Never in the main shop and never by anybody else, including when we are busy.

If you would rather not come in, send measurements taken from a garment that already fits you, laid flat with a tape in the photograph. Many of our regular customers order this way.

Bring the garment, or bring the measurements

Ten minutes at the counter settles most questions, and the price for an alteration is given before anything is cut.
