The payments counter is open Sunday to Thursday from eight until half past two, and on Saturday from nine until noon.
What is paid here: permit fees, hall bookings, equipment hire, the contractor's rubble collection, register copies and letters. Cash, card and transfer. A receipt is printed for everything and the ward does not take a payment without one.
What is not paid here: water, electricity, any utility bill, any national fee, and anything the city collects centrally. People are sent here for all of those and the desk will give you the right counter and its hours.
The Saturday desk exists because a working person cannot always reach a counter between eight and three on a weekday. It handles letters, register copies and payments and nothing else: no permits, no registry corrections, no appointments, no fault reports that need the inspector. Two staff, three hours, and it deals with about seventy people.
It would be easy to extend it and the ward has decided not to, twice, because the nine staff who cover it are the same nine who run the weekday desk and the queue on Sunday morning is what suffers.
