The ward has three hundred and ten marked resident bays across eleven streets and six hundred and forty permits. That arithmetic is the whole subject and the ward says it plainly rather than pretending a permit is a space.
What a permit is: the right to park in a resident bay in this ward when one is free. It is not a reserved space, not a space outside your own house, and not a defence against a neighbour who parked there first.
Who can have one: a household on the ward register, with a vehicle registered to somebody at that address. One permit per household as standard. A second is possible where two people at the address each need a vehicle for work, decided at the desk on the papers, and about one in five second applications is refused.
What to bring: the vehicle registration, your identity document, and a letter or bill showing the address if you are not yet on the ward register.
Cost and timing: one hundred and fifty rufiyaa a year. Renewals run in the first three weeks of January and this is an appointment job rather than a queue job, because six hundred and forty renewals in fifteen working days is how a desk collapses. Slots open in December.
A permit is cancelled if the vehicle is sold and not replaced within three months, and the bay markings are the city's, so a faded bay is reported by this desk and repainted by them.
