The park had a swing frame from the nineteen nineties, no shade, one light, and a surface that held water for three days after rain.
The rebuild put in fourteen trees and two shade structures, a surface that drains, new equipment for two age groups with a soft surface under it, seating along the wall for the people actually supervising children, a drinking water point, and lighting on a timer until ten at night.
The ward ran three meetings on the design and changed two things because of them. The seating was doubled after mothers pointed out that a park with nowhere to sit is a park nobody stays in. And the gate was moved to the Ranna Magu side and away from the corner, which residents said was the corner children ran out of into traffic.
The unpopular decision. Ball games were stopped in this park when the rebuild opened, because the houses on the north side had complained for two years about balls in their yards and their windows. The ward's answer was that the larger play area behind the mosque takes ball games and this one does not, and it has kept that answer at every meeting since. It is raised about twice a year and the vote has gone the same way each time.
The equipment log is at the desk and the crew inspects every Sunday.
