Cakes baked to order, for the day they are needed
Birthdays, weddings, naming days and office farewells. One baker, one oven, and a limit on how many cakes leave here in a week, which is the only way every one of them is right.
Four things worth knowing before you order
Three days for a tiered cake
Two days for anything single tier, three for tiers, and a week in Ramadan and the fortnight after Eid.
The weather decides the finish
Buttercream softens at Malé room temperature. For an outdoor event we finish in ganache or fondant instead and say so on the quotation.
No alcohol in any recipe
Not in the sponge, not in the filling, and not in the extracts. The vanilla we buy is the alcohol free one and it costs more.
Boxed, based and dowelled
Every cake leaves on a board it can be carried by, and tiers travel separately unless you are collecting in a car with a flat boot.
Cakes for the days people remember
Six things we make every week, priced by how many people you are feeding rather than by how it looks in a photograph.
Birthday cakes
Round or square, one or two layers, from 450 rufiyaa for a cake that feeds ten.
Wedding and tiered cakes
Two, three and four tier cakes from 3,500 rufiyaa, dowelled, boarded and delivered on the day.
Cupcakes and dessert tables
Cupcakes from 35 rufiyaa each with a minimum of twelve, plus brownies, tarts and jars.
Naming day and aqeeqa cakes
Simple, generous cakes for a house full of family, with a sheet size that cuts into fifty pieces.
Office and corporate orders
Farewells, launches and Eid boxes, invoiced properly with GST and a delivery slot you can plan around.
Tastings and consultations
A box of four flavours for 250 rufiyaa, taken off the price of a wedding cake if you go ahead.
Where we are up to
Recent orders
A four tier wedding cake, a hundred and forty cupcakes for a school, and a birthday cake that had to cross the bridge in a taxi at noon.
A four tier wedding cake for four hundred guests
Fondant over ganache, built at the venue at four o'clock for a seven o'clock reception, in a room with no air conditioning until six.
A hundred and forty cupcakes for a school morning
Delivered at half past seven in the morning in twelve boxes, with no nuts in the kitchen for two days.
A birthday cake that had to cross the bridge at noon
A two layer chocolate cake delivered to Hulhumalé at the hottest hour of the day, and what had to change to make that possible.
What customers say afterwards
She told us our buttercream cake would not survive the room and quoted fondant instead, which cost more. At half past nine the cake was still square and I understood why she had argued with me.
A hundred and forty cupcakes at half past seven in the morning, no nuts in the kitchen for two days, and it was all in writing so I could answer the parents myself. We have ordered twice more.
A proper quotation, a proper invoice with GST and a delivery slot rather than an afternoon. For an office order that is worth more than the cake being pretty, and the cake was pretty.
What people ask before they order
How much notice do you need?
Two days for a single tier cake and three for anything with tiers. Cupcakes and brownies, two days.
In Ramadan and for the fortnight after Eid, make that a week for everything and three weeks for gift boxes. Those are the busiest weeks of our year and they are also the weeks people leave it latest.
How do you price a cake?
By how many people it feeds and how it is finished, in that order. A seven inch round feeding ten starts at 450 rufiyaa, a nine inch feeding twenty at 700, a full sheet feeding fifty at 1,450, and tiered cakes from 3,500.
Flavour does not change the price. Finish does, because fondant and piped work are hours rather than ingredients.
Can you copy a cake from a photograph?
Usually, and we will tell you which parts of it will not work here. Most cake photographs on the internet were taken in a cold country, and a tall stack of piped buttercream is one of the things that simply does not hold at thirty degrees.
Send the photograph anyway. We will say what we can match exactly, what we would change and what it costs either way.
Tell us the date and how many people
Those two things are enough for a real price. A photograph of a cake you like helps, and we will tell you honestly what part of it will not survive a Malé afternoon.
Start with the date
The date, the number of people and where the cake has to be. We answer every message, usually within a few hours.
