Repairs and alterations to furniture and doors, whether or not we made them.
Charged at 450 rufiyaa an hour plus parts, with most single jobs taking under two hours. A door adjusted, a set of rusted hinges replaced, a drawer runner changed, a swollen cabinet base cut out and replaced in marine ply.
The repair we are asked for most is a kitchen that looks tired but is structurally sound. Replacing the doors and the hardware on a good carcass costs roughly a third of a new kitchen and takes four days rather than six weeks, and where the carcasses are eighteen millimetre and dry it is honestly the better purchase. We will tell you which of those you have after ten minutes with a torch.
The repair we refuse is a water damaged MDF unit. Swollen MDF cannot be dried out or filled; the part has to be remade. Patching it is taking money for something that will look wrong in four months.
For rusted hardware, we fit stainless or coated replacements rather than the same plain steel, because within sight of the sea plain steel hinges rust through in under two years and doing the job twice is not a saving.
