Ages seven to twelve, in classes of fourteen, for a twelve week term. Three afternoons a week at the same hour, and the office tells you which three when it confirms your place.
A new child is heard read for a few minutes in the first week and placed at the level they can actually read at. That is sometimes lower than a parent expects, and we say so in week one rather than in week ten, because a child sitting in a class they cannot follow learns nothing and stops wanting to come.
What the hour contains: reading aloud one at a time while the others follow, the letters and the rules of recitation as they arise in what is being read, and a stretch on whatever the class is working through together. The teacher writes on each child's record every few weeks, and a parent may ask for it at the office any time.
