The hall beside the office seats about two hundred and is booked through the front desk.
Funerals and anything the mosque committee arranges have first call and pay nothing. Weddings and family occasions are four hundred rufiyaa for a day. A community or school event is free, and so is anything the council itself has asked for.
The council also lends out three hundred plastic chairs, twelve tables, the sound system and two tents. Chairs and tables are free to island households. The sound system is one hundred rufiyaa and comes with somebody to set it up, because it has been broken twice by people who were sure they knew how.
Book early for the school holidays and for the two weeks after Ramadan, which is when half the island's weddings happen. A booking is held for three days without payment and then released.
